Henry Tofts

Lead Level Designer @ Splash Damage

About Me:

My first games console was the Sega Master System 1. It had Safari Hunt and Hang-on, both of which had me addicted to gaming from that point on. The turning point for me came when Unreal Tournament released. Not only was it amazing but it also came with a level editor. (I still see apple nodes for ai pathing in my head). Since then my passion for gaming never left, and it would eventually take me to university to study a BSc in Interactive systems & video games design. I graduated in 2007 with a 2:1, spending my most of my time thereafter grinding away in retail.

My first industry break would arrive when I became obsessed with Trials HD in the summer of 2009. It also came with a level editor, which was surprisingly extensive in its functionality. Naturally I immediately started to make things that no one had seen before, and pushed the editor far beyond its expected rulesets. A map making tournament popped up that Redlynx was hosting. I decided I needed to rein in some of my wilder ideas and make something the developers could envisage in the game itself. Whatever I was thinking at the time, paid off because my map came first and I suddenly found myself living in Finland just a few weeks after the games launch working on both DLC's for the game.

Since then, I have struggled...(yup more retail), and dabbled as a professional QA tester for a few years working on some of Sega's biggest titles 'Alien Isolation + Total War'. Now at Splash Damage I have applied my left field brain and can do mentality to reach a lead position in level design where I can help to shape the future junior members under my care and work to bring my eclectic mix of knowledge into awesome AAA experiences.
